Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired two times late to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
