Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of characters who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose death started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then cleared his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, seeks retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and warns that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could assist the group access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:
- The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The warrior and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the family.
This results in them few options but to journey toward the northern region in search of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Explorers and Planners tables.
Fans can expect discovering which players will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
